Sound Training Center

The STC provides a variety of training services to suit aspiring composers, music producers, recording and mixing engineers as well DJ’s.

In studio 1-2-1 sessions are available to aid

  • Track development
  • Assisted Mix sessions
  • Equipment up-skilling
  • Software training

 

Accredited Training choices include a range of Level 2 Award – short courses which include: – PA Setup, and Multi-track Recording. Training resources are provided on-site. AbletonLive, and Logic Pro software are used in the delivery.

L2 Award online courses include Music Production, Studio Mixing. Registered learners will have access to video tutorials to help you progress and complete. Details on each course content can be seen below. Call us for more information

 

L3 Award on-site courses are longer and are available for groups of 4+ persons. Training resources are provided on-site. We also provide worksheet, style guides, demonstrations and feedback during course delivery. Protools HD, LogicPro and AbletonLive software are use in delivery.

L3 Award online courses are designed for remote learning these include Multi-track Mixing and Music Production. For more information Call Us

Level 2 Courses

Live Sound Engineering

This course is made up of 2 units: each has a value of 4 credits. A total of 8 credits for the L2 Award.

PA Set-up – Onsite Training (practical set-up)
  • Set-up the Rig systematically
  • Adhere to health and safety
  • Develop an understanding of signal flow
  • Learn how to maintain a mix
  • Break down the rig systematically.
  • Follow correct storage procedures.
Sound Check – Onsite Training (practical assessment)
  • Risk assessment
  • Line checks on all cables and connections
  • Soundcheck each instrument/mic and adjust levels appropriately including: EQ, Compression/gating.
  • Work with performers
  • Maintain a balanced mix

Multi-track Recording

This is a 1 Unit course with a credit value of 7 for this L2 Award

Multi-track RecordingOnsite Training (practical set-up)
  • Identify the resources to make and recording and devise a plan
  • Undertake a risk assessment for a recording session
  • Microphone types, pickup patterns, placement and use in recording
  • Gain an understanding of room acoustics, outboard equipment or inline effects
  • Complete a live recording and review

Music Production

This is a 1 Unit course with a credit value of 8 for this L2 Award

Video tutorials will be made available to registered learners.

Composition – Online Training (software based)
  • Develop skill in music technology software
  • Use a brief theme to create an original composition
  • Understand how to use hook, melody and rhythm
  • Improve your listening skill to assess your composition
  • Apply arrangement

Studio Mixing

Raw stems will be provided to learners registered for this course and video tutorials will be made available. L3 Award has a credit value of

Studio MixingOnline Training (software based)

  • Mixing stages
  • Understand the functions and controls of a mixing desk
  • Learn how effects can be used to refine and/or modify recording
  • Creating balance in a recording
  • Depth of field and stereo field and how effects can be used
  • Final review with trainer on completed mix

Level 3 Courses

Live Sound Engineering

Participants will have an opportunity to engineer a real live event at on completion of this course.

This course is made up of 2 units: each has a value of 4. A total of 8 credits for the L3 Award.

PA Set-up – Onsite Training (practical set-up)

  • Learn how to set optimal signal to noise ratio.
  • Demonstrate your ability to maintain a mix using: pre-fade listen (PFL); equalisation (EQ); sub-grouping; digital effects; auxiliary sends.
  • Ability to monitor the stage and communicate with performers
  • Be able to perform post performance activities.

Sound Check – Onsite Training (practical assessment)

  • Understand how to perform a sound check
  • Prepare a Public Address (PA) system for sound check.
  • Demonstrate ability to sound check instruments.
  • Work with performers
  • Create a balanced mix

Multi-track Recording

Gain an understanding of how to make multi-track recordings.

This is a 1 Unit course with a credit value of 6 for this L3 Award

Multi-track RecordingOnsite Training (practical set-up)

  • Plan a recording
  • Conduct a risk assessment and outline health and safety considerations
  • Critically compare a range of microphone types, application, design and pickup patterns
  • Explain the recording processes
  • Record an ensemble and review the recording.

Music Production

This course will enable learners to create an original musical composition

This L3 Award has a credit value of 8.

Video tutorials will be made available to registered learners.

Music Production – Online Training (software based)

  • Be able to identify the starting point for an original composition.
  • Develop skills to evaluate instrumentation. 
  • Demonstrate use of hook, melody and rhythm in music.
  • Implement arrangement and structuring techniques

Studio Mixing

This course will enable you to understand and apply mixing techniques using studio mixing desk
